Among the Vines features a Common Raven I photographed while exploring Crescent City Harbor in northern California. I spotted this remarkable bird investigating the rocks along the water’s edge, seemingly indifferent to the gulls swooping overhead. I was captivated by its keen, curious expression and the beautiful iridescent sheen of its feathers. It was one of those unexpected encounters that reminded me how extraordinary even the most familiar wildlife can be.
Created from my original wildlife photograph and combined with a handmade gel plate monoprint featuring botanical impressions of grape leaves, this mixed-media artwork brings together the raven’s striking presence and the rich colors and organic textures of the natural world.
