This Red-winged Blackbird was photographed on a spring day at Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. Perched on a post, the male’s distinctive song carried across the landscape, while his brilliant red-and-yellow shoulder patch stood out against his glossy black feathers.
